In ancient times, solid perfumes were very popular. They were usually worn by the wealthy on a beautiful, dedicated pendant chain. In the Middle Ages, solid perfumes were filled with a mixture of benzoin resins, amber, rose and musk, and were usually a way to hide unpleasant body odours.

Nowadays, solid perfumes are convenient because they don’t take up a lot of space, they’re easy to throw in your handbag and they’re indispensable for travelling.

How to use: rub the solid perfume with your finger and apply directly to the body. The most common areas to put the perfume on are the neck, wrists and décolleté.
